I have had a myspace and facebook profile in the past but found it weird. I find it strange that a lot of the people on there who claim to have loads of on-line friends haven't even met some of them! An ex-friend at work's daughter asked to my myspace friend, said yes just to seem polite then she said I was stalking her coz I was her myspace friend!!!! WEIRD!!! I think it can be dangerous to add people you don't even know of, you could tell them private things that even your real friends don't know. Do these people even meet up with the people who they have never met? Probably not coz it would get reid of the air of mystery. I like seeeing my friends face to face, not over a computer screen. It is too easy to ask to be a friend on myspace etc. if they don't ask you in real life then they don't really see you as a friend, it just bumps up their friend numbers so they can boast to their other friends, real or on-line.

Set your profiles to private and don't add people you don't know. If one of your friends starts harrassing you or saying/doing something that scares or worries you on myspace/facebook, just delete them from your friend-list.

No, I don't think those sites are odd (I've made some really kewl online friends over they years...some also became offline friends), but there are so many kids on those sites that it loses some appeal for me.
I use Facebook for REAL friends (old and new) and MYSPACE is for meeting (on the old internet and not real life) new guys %26amp; girls. I also use MYSPACE alot to find new bands and gigs :)
I mainly used to use facebook to keep in touch with my college friends over breaks. Now that I've graduated it's a great way to keep in touch with them because I don't get to see everyone everyday anymore. Myspace I've used to get in touch with really old friends like people from elementary, middle, and high school that i've lost touch with. It's interesting to see how some of my childhood friends have turned out! I do have 1 or 2 people on my myspace that I have not met in real life. I do NOT tell them anything that I wouldn't tell any of my real-life friends. and a lot of info (i.e. where i live, phone number etc) I don't give out. But we have things in common and it's good to talk to new people...kinda like penpals only over the computer.
There are people that aren't safe with their info on these sites...but that I don't understand why especially with all of the media surrounding myspace...you'd think people would have learned by now.

no just be careful about the information that u release about yourself. the good thing is that u have ya profile set to private so u determine who sees everything that u put on there.. never share passwords or invite people that u dont feel good about. there is also a setting where u can allow the adders to include a last name and email address. so it can be a safe have to meet new and exciting people, but as u kno, there is always some bad apple!!

You can hide certain info too. Most MySpace layout sites will have something that says it'll hide that part of your info.

myspace is a horrible idea sorry. there is information that you need to give myspace in order to sign up for the account. And multiple accounts are getting "hacked" and changing profiles and attaining personal information because it is a horrible site. But on the other hand they wont let you get a myspace but online group such as this they have no problem with?
Offer to have them monitor your profile on myspace.. this was they are more comfortable with you being on myspace if they know what you have on it... and know more about it...other then all the creepy stuff they show on tv!!

you should show all the things you can do on myspace such as making your page private making your photos private as well as hiding your details. talk to your parents about how safe it can be and how they should trust you. tell them that you are only going to add people you know and only talk to people you know. :)
Tell them they can look over your profile to show it is a private profile and if they see something they object to, you will change it. Other than that, I don't see what choice you have. If they won't allow you to have it with their approval and checking everything over to make sure nothing is wrong or that you are posting any info.. they must just like being unreasonable.
My mom was just fine with me getting a myspace and i was really careful too. Then one day i got accused of threatening someone when i didn't. Now they couldnt prove it and I couldnt prove my side but the girls parents where willing to put me through hell anyways. I would be concered if I was your mom too. The best advice I can give is let your mom check on your site. Make sure everything is ok and appropriate. You might say NO WAY but believe me, after what I went through I wish I would have just let my mom check mine. She might trust me a little more today.
Ok first of all you don't need a myspace, but if you want to have one then fine.
First tell them it is safe and that if you are not going to make friends with strangers that they do not need to worry.
Also Myspace is pretty secure and just make sure that you dont make friends with people you dont know cause that could be troublesome

If you really want to do My-space and you are truly going to keep it clean and safe, SAFE enough for your parents to visit then ask your parents if they would be willing to sit with you when you create your space... Ask them to help you with it, so they will understand it is clean and safe.. If they say NO, then give it some time and ask again later.. This time ask them if they want to make a family My-space with you.. HONESTLY if you are not willing to have your parents see what you have planned for the space then it is likely not worth posting! Hi all, I just created a new myspace profile today and I set my account setting to "private."
However, when I tried to search for my profile (in other words, I tried to look myself up) under the "Find a Friend" function (I searched "by name," btw), no results turned up. Pretend my name is John Doe.
With the "Find a Friend" search ("by name," NOT by "display name," btw) I entered John Doe. Two other peoples' profiles (with apparently the same name?) showed up, but neither one is me. Then I entered "John Doe" (with quotes). This yielded NO results. Point being: I'm not showing up as a user at all under the Myspace search, when searching by name. If I search by my e-mail however, then you find my profile.
So I'm wondering, why can't anyone (like old friends from high school who don't know my e-mail/URL) find me by searching by my "Name" (first/last)? I don't think it's cuz it's set to private either...I'm abl
I think if you're under 18 and your account is set to private, they can't find you. Tough luck

If you don't have both already, I suggest Facebook. Neither of them are dangerous if you're a smart user (make your profile private, don't post EVERY little detail about your life), but Facebook is better because spammers can't get to it as easily as MySpace. It also has great features and it's really organized. If you don't know html code, it's easy to figure out. (To really do anything on MySpace, you should learn html code to add cool stuff to your profile).
Nope, there aren't any real trackers on MySpace or Facebook. As long as you're just looking at their profile and don't click links, you're fine. All the trackers out there are fake. I don't really think you should be spying on people but yeah, you're safe lol
To "Poke" someone on Facebook is the lazy person's way of saying hi without having to write them a real message. Instead of sending someone a message, just Poke them and it's like "hi, I'm thinking about you (not in a creepy stalker way) but I don't want to write you a message so I'm poking you instead."
When you log into Facebook, you can only view the profiles of your friends and those in your network (if you go to the same school or live in the same city.) It also depends if those people have set their profile to "Friends Only," in which case you need to be friends first before viewing their profile. Facebook isn't like MySpace in that way. You have to be a member of Facebook to look at profiles while you don't even hafta log into MySpace to view profiles.
Don't lie about your age. Just be real. Maybe on MySpace you could lie about your age 'cuz there are totally random people on there but dont' do it on Facebook. They have crazy restrictions and you won't be able to change it back. I dunno, it's difficult. But if you're under 13, it won't allow you to get a Facebook. Just wait.

Niether are dangerous. I think facebook is LESS dangerous. Facebook is an easier site in my opinion, like easier to create an account and more fun, there's lots of fun applications to check out. On facebook, someone can only view your profile if u tell the account they can, as in u can change ur settings to only allow your friends 2 see your it.

I have accounts on both Facebook and Myspace. Personally I rarely ever use Facebook, due to the fact I am out to meet new people from around the world and Facebook is rather limited in that fact, can only add if you "know" the person. Myspace is ok, but recently found Yuwie (http://r.yuwie.com/americanann) which is where I hang out now. In my personal opinion people seem to be friendlier there compared to Myspace. Have meet a lot of nice people in a matter of a few days, and seems to be pretty safe. Like other people have said, a person just has to have some common sense when dealing with others online.
What code do I use on myspace so that when someone who isn't my friend visits my profile [and its set to private and nothing but my picture, headline and NAVIGATION/CONTACT box shows up, it doesn't look like the average myspace contact box] but a customized one i got a code for?

I know how to set it on private but that doesn't stop other people from sending messages. I am making a myspace for my cousin and I want it to be complety private. So, she will only have family and friends comunicating with her.
You can set it up so that whoever messages you has to know either your last name or e-mail address. The option is under account settings.
I know there are website that help you create profiles and backgrounds. I know there are many options on those sites. You can even hide your friends list and all. Google myspace code generators and search through them and you might find something a little better at privacy settings.

Yes facebook is much safer, and this is why. you have to have a verified email address from a college or university to be in that network. You can't just make up an email address and get on facebook. The sight is mainly for students. If you are in high school, the only way you can get on is if someone who is already in that high school says they know you. There are a lot more safety features, not all of the junk and profanity and vulgarity and bad photos like you find on myspace too. It's mostly just for keeping in contact with people you already know, and people use their real names. You will just add friends, and not be meeting people there. Show them what it looks like, as compared to the over the top pages on myspace, and they will like what they see.

I totally disagree. Facebook broadcasts your address, phone number and all of those things to people in your network if you're not careful.
It also broadcasts your last name, which MySpace does not do. It even has a "news feed" that informs your friends what you've changed around on your profile or what "applications" you have added.
MySpace let's you decide what you want to broadcast because it lets you post bulletins. You can make your profile private, your photos private of 'friends only', and you can make your blogs readable by only you, a select list, friends only, or public.

You also don't want to put any personal information up, this way no one can find you. Facebook was made for college kids but now anyone can create one. I know face book has a setting that lets you pick what your friends see on your profile and which friends can see it, i'm not sure about myspace for that one though. I don't know what you could say to your parents to convince them but yoiu could just not tell them and put you name in backwards so they can't find you if they decide to check.

My mom is extremely nervous about me being on myspace and facebook. But she knows that she can trust me. I willingly let her check my myspace occasionally. Also, it calms her fear that my aunt is alos on myspace and can check up on my site. It sounds like you have family on myspace too. This is great for you and parents to keep everyone on the same page.
Myspace is very different from facebook in that it is harder to track people to see exactly who they are. I hate when people don't give any clue on their profile of who they are so you don't know whether you know them or not. Facebook is great because you can see their real name most times, and it is easier to find their information. I like it personally because it is more organized. But I do enjoy myspace because of all of the customiztions and creativity you can add to your page.
Which is safer?
They both are equal in my opinion. On both you can hide your profile from people who arent on your friend list. People can't search for you unless you are 18 and older. on myspace. On both though, you can choose to not put your name where it says to put your real name and you wont come up in searches. There are so many safety features on both that a sensible indidvidual can easily keep their profile safe.
As for hiding things from your friends but not your family, im pretty sure there are ways to get around that. It would take some looking into.
Now, for the hard part...

Present the facts to your parents and let them no that you have nothing to hide and can show them your page anytime they would like. This should ease any concerns they have.

Alright, a few different things to say.
1) You don't NEED a facebook or myspace, and if you need your parents' permission, that's kinda sad.
2) Facebook was never intended for high schoolers. They just recently opened it up to people who are not in college.
3) Because of this, creeps can access facebook and begin to stalk people.
However, there are more safety precautions. No one can even attempt to see your profile unless they are in your network or friend. You can make your settings even more secure by changing that to only people who are your friends. You can also decide what certain people see who are your friends. You just go to "My Account" and security and can play around with all of that good stuff.
You could approach your parents by saying that you want to keep in touch with your friends who have moved and your family members. If they seem to be going along with it, you could also suggest that they make one, so they can keep track of who you are talking to (Not something I would want my parents on, especially once I got older, but it might work.) Your other option of course is to just not tell them, but I do not believe in telling lies.
I'm a freshman in highschool also. I have been using facebook for about 2 months now and it is very safe in my opinion. Way safer than Myspace and also a lot better. The only real way someone can be your friend is if they are in your highschool or another highschool. Just don't accept any friend requests from people that you don't know and you will be fine. You can also make your profile private from your network so that only your friends can see your profile.
Just let your dad check out the site with you by himself and he will know what I mean.

Honestly, it's because of the age that's on your myspace. If you're under 16 or 18 or something it's automatically set to private.
If you are a young, then your page is automatically set to private until your at least 16

Just decline Jon's invitation to be added, and then when you see Jon in person, explain that you want to keep your myspace profile private, and that means leaving out people who know the two of you (or you could say the only people you allow as "friends" are your family, so that you can keep up with what they're doing). If he can't accept that, then it's his problem, and you shouldn't worry about it. If he's a good friend, he'll respect your wishes. And if he has a problem with it, he isn't all that great of a friend. Hope this helps....
Let him know that your profile is kept private for a certian group so that you can discuss things without people feeling like they can't say something because of "outsiders". Tell him you don't want to hurt his feelings and hope that he understands!
I had this very conversation with a friend of mine today. And I would say "No" you don't have to add this person. This seems like a common problem on myspace. I had the very same problem and just did not add this person. My friend on the other hand took it to the next level and totally deleted his page from myspace. Just ignore the request for a few days and stay off on myspace for a few days and see what happens.

well there are different ways to find someone when searching, either by there first or last name, there location, there email address, which always works quicker, cause everyone usually dont use there real name, so its hard to find someone.
I am only using myspace because my friends use it. Is setting my profile to private, putting a false name for myself, and not giving out my personal information enough? I hate talking to people I don't know in real life.

Myspace has a privacy setting that allows only you or your friends to view your profile. Its in your home page, when you first log in, the list next to your profile photo. Open the options and select what you need on your privacy settings.
I think you have got the right idea already! And if you need to hide from everyone who your friends are on your myspace page I can give you the code for that. You will be able to see your friends from the home page but on you profile itself that EVERYONE of your friends go to THEY WON'T see who else is on your friend list. UNLESS they leave you a comment and you post it of course!

Nope. You can set it up so people can only see your nickname, your profile pics (with some miscellaneous link functions under that), friends module, your Top Page comments (unless you delete all of them), and your background. If that's not private enough, then you should move to another service.

No...first of all, if their page is private then you didn't actually view their page, so therefore the trakzor wouldn't have picked up that you looked at their profile. Secondly, even if you were on their friends list, Trakzor would only give them the info on who visited their profile if they have Trakzor themselves...which is very rare. Those tracking devices don't really work, like I said unless the people viewing have the same tracking device. Hope that helps!

Another thing is not give out any information that could lead you back to your school, home or anywhere you normally hang out at. Don't give out your phone number, address, or anything to anyone on there. Also don't give out your password to anyone but the normal homepage. If someone acting as Tom asks for it, don't give it to them. Oh and one more thing, there is no such thing as a profile tracker so don't click on it AT ALL!!! It's just a way to get your myspace page hacked into.

hey i finally found out. and im pretty sure i get what you are saying.
they only way to do that is to get the code for a scroll box, and just wait keep reading, but you just have to set the length and width for that box so there isnt a way for it to scroll. do you know what im saying? like if you have enough information in that box and it will go beyond the expanse of the box's length and width thats what makes the box scroll. but if you make it so that the message you put in the box doesnt go over the limit of size you have, then it wont scroll.
so all you have to do is just play around with this scroll box code so that it doesnt scroll. all you have to do is change the length and width in this code to get it to what you want. you can also put in a text code that can make your text smaller. ill include that in here as well.

Firstly you need to change your password, try to make it harder this time.
Also if there are bulletins that say "Hey click This" It could be a way for them to get your password. Even if it is your friend that posted it, just like you someone could have hacked into their account.
The first thing you need to do is change your password. Usually in situations like that it's because someone hacked in or found out your password and walked in so to speak. The second thing you need to do is contact myspace and let them know what happened, that way they can monitor your page, and they can take steps to see if they can track down who or where those messages came from. Yeah there have been all these phishing attacks happening to myspace users lately. Somewhere on myspace you clicked on a link and it took you to a phony login page. You probably, thinking you'd been logged out, typed in your information and that's how the person got your login info. To remedy the problem you need to change your password and to prevent it from happening again never EVER sign into myspace without first checking to see that the address in the browser bar says http://myspace.com
I almost fell for the trap but luckily I happened to look up and I noticed that the address for the supposed "login" page had the URL of a myspace profile and not the website.

Okay, this is harder than it sounds. I don't have the website exactly, but going to any simple profile on myspace that has layouts for you to use on it (you know, RETRO layouts, profiles like that). Add them to your friends. Most of those profiles will not only have layouts, but codes. Those can be done in the account settings page which is the second link on your homepage to the right of your pic on the top of the page
Go to your myspace home page, and click on account settings.
From there click "privacy settings"
Check the box for "friend requests, require email or last name"
Also, make sure the dot is in the box for "who can view my profile? friends only"
As for the different picture, my only advice is to upload a pic of something other than yourself to set as your default, and in Add/edit photos, set your photos so that only your friends can see them.

go to account settings then privacy setting. it's all in there. as for the picture on the outside being different from your default pic... the only way to do that (as far as i know) is to make your own div layout. you can do that here: http://www.bbzspace.com/overlay/

Im pretty sure. Its under your setting. Whenever you go to your home page right next to your avatar pic is a choice that says manage your blog, once you get there you should find the blog settings somewhere.

Probably used a background check. Or one of your friends snitched out on you. But most stuff can be found out through Background Checks. What kind of info was it? Extremely personal stuff, or stuff like financial records or arrest history or something like that?
Well, depending on what they found out and how they informed you of their knowledge, and what they're even DOING with that knowledge...you could sue the pants off of them for interfering with your personal life. They have no rights in that department. I guess unless you were myspacing at work and that's their whole case.
Anything you put on the internet is not private. Even if you click "make it private". Most security is not very secure.
Do you access your myspace account from work? If you do your employer has the web address %26amp; the password. It's not your computer %26amp; your employer does have the right to monitor it's usage especially as it pertains to non-work activities.
Did you register with your real name? If you did, it's not hard to find a person on there.
Does anyone at work have the address? Someone might have found the screwy pic of you dancing half naked after frolicking in a vat of jello too much to resist passing around the office email list. Or maybe someone doesn't like you very much %26amp; "accidentally" showed the boss.
Either way it happened, don't ever put anything down on the internet that you wouldn't want someone you respect find out about. %26amp; take a lesson from the dumb bunny's out there, don't film it either.

there are programs that record keystrokes and passwords and accounts and stuff like that which record when they where recorded and how long they where on for these programs are made for bosses which they download and turn on and bam its gathering everything you did yesterday so he might have downloaded it after your shift at work and it finds everything you done on the internet so coution to you and hope this helped
