I had mine set to public when I first joined myspace but I started getting friend requests from a lot of people I didn't know and a lot of them did not look trustworthy. I just decided to deny them as friends. But then I started getting messages from a girl who supposedly knew me from elementary school. I added her, she was nice and everything. Then all of a sudden she started telling me really nasty things (sexual) and she kept bugging me for my address. I ended up blocking her and after that I just set it to private.

if you have personal things like pictures or school info or anything like that, I would definently set it to private. Or you could set it to public and just set your pics to private.

really it's a personal choice. if you like for what you put on your profile to be between you and your friends then put it to private.

if you don't mind getting added by people you don't know in person and your comfortable with that then put it to public.

mind is set to public because i don't mind Internet chatting.

I have mine set to private as I know my profile is then only shown to the people on my friends list.

I think it is more ideal to have your profile set to private if you are younger, just as it was done ages ago on MySpace - if you were under 16, your profile was automatically set to private and couldn't be changed unless you were over the age of 16.

Although, it is your personal choice.

If you feel comfortable with knowing that your profile will be shown and seen to people you don't know and not knowing know's viewing it, then you can set it to public.

Though, I do know MySpace has many "lurkers", which is a main reason why I set it to private.

Also, most of the time, people just want to view your profile %26amp; pictures and not bother talking to you.
